Box Office: "Inside Out" Passes "Finding Nemo" As Pixar's Top-Grossing Original Film

Joy from "Inside Out"
On Tuesday, August 18th, “Inside Out’s” total box office reached $340.1M, passing that of the initial release of “Finding Nemo” ($339.7M) to become Pixar’s top grossing original film. This excludes the additional $41M the 3D re-release of “Nemo” took in a few years ago. To keep things simple, we’re only counting how much each film made when they were first released; otherwise, things can get pretty messy with re-releases (How many times has “Star Wars” been re-released?).

Judging by the box office last weekend, lots of people stayed home instead of heading out to theaters to catch the new releases. Who could blame them, really? A drama about a writer haunted by his decision to claim someone else's work as his own and a listless action thriller thrown in theaters without much fanfare were not exactly must-see material.

Their adventure brings them face-to-face with vegetarian sharks, surfer dude turtles, hypnotic jellyfish, hungry seagulls, and more.
