With its release coming next month, looks like Paramount Pictures is putting its marketing into high gear for John Chu’s “G.I. Joe: Retaliation.” Last week, the actioner that teams up Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum, and Bruce Willis collected 840,832 Likes on Facebook, by far the most for any film in our database in one week.

We’ve just launched Monthly Facebook Charts in the Popcorn Index section. As usual, we have two charts: one for every movie we’ve covered since May, and another one just for upcoming movies.

If you haven’t already noticed, we have weekly charts in the Popcorn Index now. Again, there’s one that tracks every movie we have in our database and another for just upcoming movies, which is probably what most people are interested in and what I’ll be analysing below. Three films opening within the next two weeks made it into the top five in the Facebook Weekly chart for upcoming movies last week.

Never underestimate horror films. They have a reliable group of fans who’ll rush out to the theaters as long as they deliver the scares. Most of them might not be good movies, but as long as the horror goods are there, the fans don’t care.

Yesterday, Tim Burton’s stop-motion feature “Frankenweenie” made an appearance at the top of the Facebook chart for upcoming movies. With 15,132 Facebook Likes added, it pushed the reigning champ “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” down a slot.

Popcorn Index: "The Apparition" Tops The Daily Charts for Opening Movies

For the last few days, “The Apparition” has been adding about 5,000 Facebook Likes per day, by far the most for films opening this week. “Hit & Run” and “Premium Rush” have been adding about 2,000. For total number of Facebook Likes, “Hit & Run” is still tops with about 117,988.

On the “Opening This Week” section on the left sidebar of the homepage, we’re including Facebook Likes figures along with the Tomatometer. Before the movies open, you can see which is most anticipated by Facebook users. The total number of Likes a film receives shows which is the most popular and the daily number shows which is gaining traction.

We just launched another Facebook chart: one for just upcoming movies. Now you can track which future release is most liked on Facebook. It’s located in the “Popcorn Index” submenu.

"The Bourne Legacy" is Back Down to 50% on Rotten Tomatoes

Yesterday, “The Bourne Legacy” was borderline Fresh at 61% on the Tomatometer with 45 reviews. I was wondering if this Jeremy Renner starring reboot could hold on. I guess not because, today, it’s back down to 50% with 119 reviews. This is where it’ll probably settle.
