Popcorn Index: "Hotel Transylvania," "Trouble with the Curve," and " Looper" Topped Last Week's Chart

If you haven’t already noticed, we have weekly charts in the Popcorn Index now. Again, there’s one that tracks every movie we have in our database and another for just upcoming movies, which is probably what most people are interested in and what I’ll be analysing below. Three films opening within the next two weeks made it into the top five in the Facebook Weekly chart for upcoming movies last week.

Yesterday, Tim Burton’s stop-motion feature “Frankenweenie” made an appearance at the top of the Facebook chart for upcoming movies. With 15,132 Facebook Likes added, it pushed the reigning champ “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” down a slot.

For the last few days, “The Apparition” has been adding about 5,000 Facebook Likes per day, by far the most for films opening this week. “Hit & Run” and “Premium Rush” have been adding about 2,000. For total number of Facebook Likes, “Hit & Run” is still tops with about 117,988.

On the “Opening This Week” section on the left sidebar of the homepage, we’re including Facebook Likes figures along with the Tomatometer. Before the movies open, you can see which is most anticipated by Facebook users. The total number of Likes a film receives shows which is the most popular and the daily number shows which is gaining traction.

Yesterday, “The Bourne Legacy” was borderline Fresh at 61% on the Tomatometer with 45 reviews. I was wondering if this Jeremy Renner starring reboot could hold on. I guess not because, today, it’s back down to 50% with 119 reviews. This is where it’ll probably settle.

Earlier in the week, “The Bourne Legacy” debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with 50% on the Tomatometer after six reviews. Its Facebook rankings tanked for a couple of days afterwards.
