Richard Linklater Talks 12 Year Shoot for "Boyhood"

Richard Linklater has always made films about character relationships, and even chronicled one relationship at three different points in the Before trilogy. His upcoming film Boyhood portrays a family over 12 years, and he actually filmed it over the course of 12 years. At the film’s Sundance premiere, Linklater revealed how he pulled it off.

Ethan Hawke is an ex-getaway driver tear-assing through Sofia, Bulgaria to rescue his kidnapped wife (Rebecca Budig) from a cyber villain who appears to him as a disembodied voice (Jon Voight). As Voight barks commands in his campiest Hanz&Franz, Selena Gomez infiltrates the car (her car, recently stolen), later out-sleuthing Hawke with a spate of iPad apps that slowly hack away at the villain’s agenda and our credulity as well.
