Neill Blomkamp, Sony Cleared in ‘Elysium’ Copyright Suit

thewrap.com – A judge has thrown out a screenwriter's copyright suit accusing Academy Award-nominated director Neill Blomkamp of stealing his screenplay and turning it into the 2013 movie “Elysium.” U.S. District Court Judge Phyllis J. Neill Blomkamp’s scifi thriller “Elysium” debuted in China last week to a solid $11.8M after four days, according EntGroup. The Matt Damon starrer has taken in $85.4M domestically and $212M worldwide. Produced for an expensive $115M (and millions more for marketing), it’ll need home video sales to get into the black because studios only get 40-50% of the box office revenue.
