It's been more than ten years since Cabin Fever left fans wanting for more, with some claiming Eli Roth to be the new am Raimi. Fortunately Hostel proved that Roth was indeed on the right track to become an essential name in horror cinema today. So it's only natural that the anticipation has been running very high for Roth's The Green Inferno, a love letter to the sub genre of cannibal films as made famous by Italian 70's and 80's classics such as Cannibal Holocaust. The premise for the film is quite simple.

In Eli Roth‘s film The Green Inferno, well-meaning activist kids go to the Amazon with hopes of stopping deforestation. But the leaders of this group aren’t quite as upstanding as they first appear to be, but that’s only one of the problems facing the kids. Disaster strikes, leaving the group stranded in the Amazon, where they find themselves in a plot right out of a ’70s cannibal exploitation thriller.
The film was held in its own sort of hell for over a year, with distribution plans caught in legal wrangling between companies.

Eli Roth’s forthcoming cannibal drama The Green Inferno looks to have hit a fairly major snag, with distributor Open Road Films having postponed the film’s release. Deadline reports that the delay is a result of financier Worldview Entertainment getting cold feet over the publicity commitment struck by its former CEO, with Open Road refusing to release the film without receiving the agreed cash. What happens next is unclear, although the report claims that behind the scenes talks are well underway in order to find a solution, with a VOD release one of the suggestions mooted.

A new trailer has emerged online for The Green Inferno, Eli Roth's stomach-turning tale of a cannibalistic tribe living in the rainforest of Peru. The film follows a group of young American activists, hell-bent on doing their bit for the environment by jumping on a plane and jetting off for a demo against deforestation. Sadly for them, however, the natives aren't as appreciative of their efforts as they might have expected, and it isn't long before their adventure takes a turn for the macabre.
