EOB Weekend Box Office Podcast 11/24/2014: "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I" Lower Than Expected

Jennifer Lawrence in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1"
Binh and I were expecting “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I” to open as well as, if not slightly better than, the previous two films, both of which debuted in the $150M range. It did $122M, way below our predictions (or even the most conservative figures from the industry). We discuss why that happened. “Dumb and Dumber To” tumbled in its second week, continuing Jim Carrey’s recent slide at the box office. We debated over which of the three indies -- “Birdman,” “Foxcatcher,” and “The Theory of Everything” -- will eventually break out.

EOB Weekend Box Office Podcast 11-17-2014: "Dumber and Dumber To" Tops "Big Hero 6" and "Interstellar"

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels in "Dumb and Dumber To"
Binh and I have been doing these weekly podcast for several weeks now. We talk, discuss, and debate the weekly box office. This week, it’s “Dumb and Dumber To” vs. the two holdovers from last week, “Big Hero 6” and “Interstellar.” Both of us way underestimated how well the Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels sequel would do. We debated about whether or not “Gone Girl” would eventually reach $200M at the domestic box office (it’s currently at $153M), “John Wick” would get a sequel, “Nightcrawler” is a success, and much more.

'Dumb and Dumber To' Post-Credits Scene Teases Another Sequel A sequel to 1994’s ‘Dumb and Dumber’ seemed like a silly idea until ‘Dumb and Dumber To’ went and made $36 million in its opening weekend. Now, the sky is the limit for the aging idiots played by Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels and the thought of a third film (‘Dumb and Dumberer’ is not official canon) doesn’t seem all that crazy. In fact, the new film is already waaay ahead of you. If you stuck around through the end credits of ‘Dumb and Dumber To,’ you already know that the post-credits scene teases a theoretical third entry in the series. Continue reading…

Weekend Box Office Report: November 14-16, 2014 Dumb wins teh boks offiss! Low IQ laughs were the biggest draw for crowds this weekend, putting DUMB AND DUMBER TO at the top of the box office with an estimated $38 million! The sequel reunited Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels for more moronic antics a full two decades after the first DUMB AND DUMBER became a surprise smash (nearly $250 million worldwide). The follow-up marks the best opening weekend for... Read More...

Box Office: DUMB AND DUMBER TO Takes Friday with $14.2 Million Twenty years after Dumb and Dumber introduced audiences to two guys named Harry and Lloyd – and the most annoying sound in the world - the long-awaited (?) sequel has finally hit theatres.  Dumb and Dumber To opened to an estimated $14.2 million on Friday, which puts the comedy on track for between $30 and $35 million through Sunday.  That’s in line with expectations for the Universal release, though the weekend is still too close to call in the comedy’s favor.  Both Big Hero 6 and Interstellar  saw strong holds on Friday, and the animated Disney pic is also tracking in the $30 million range f

Film Review: 'Dumb and Dumber To' Walking into the screening for Dumb and Dumber To I was really nervous. Was I about to get Phantom Menaced? After all, the first film came out when I was 11 and instantly became a favorite of mine. It sits somewhere in my Top 5 Comedies, alongside Planes, Trains, and Automobiles and Blazing Saddles and a couple of others. Over the years, the original 1994 film has become a hallowed classic amongst the people that grew up with it.

Critics Consensus: Dumb and Dumber To Has Too Few Laughs

rottentomatoes.com – This week at the movies, we've got foolhardy travelers (Dumb and Dumber To, starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels) and a lovelorn pop star (Beyond the Lights, starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Nate Parker). What do the critics have to say? 5 weeks 1 day ago via brucelee

‘Dumb and Dumber To’ Review: Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels Return to Fine Form in Hilarious Sequel I probably laughed more watching “Dumb and Dumber To” than any other movie this year, save this summer's brilliant “Neighbors” and impossibly clever “22 Jump Street.” It's not just that the jokes and gags arrive one after another, barreling toward the audience with relentless regularity like baseballs from a pitching machine, although that certainly helps. For better or for worse, the Farrelly brothers, who debuted Harry and Lloyd's first road-trip comedy two decades ago when I wasn't yet a teenager, probably swayed my sense of humor their wa

Dumb and Dumber To: He Who Smelt It Things will be getting dumb very soon -- on November 14 in the US actually -- with Dumb and Dumber To. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels return as the titular duo after a 20-year break from playing Lloyd and Harry, and we've got a bunch of clips from the comedy. Take a look: Bobby and Peter Farrelly return to direct Dumb and Dumber To, which also stars Laurie Holden, Kathleen Turner, and Rob Riggle.
