New ‘Dirty Dancing’ Movie in the Works at Lionsgate with Jennifer Grey Returning to Star Dirty Dancing is one of those staple romances of the 1980s that is still so popular today that it stands among the likes of Back to the Future, Jaws, and Ghostbusters as movies that are currently playing in drive-ins around the country and always seem to be on television every single weekend. Now it appears the popularity of the title has resulted in a nostalgic revival in the form of a new Dirty Dancing movie in the works at Lionsgate which will bring back the original film’s star, Jennifer Grey. Deadline has confirmed the news that was first circulating back in mid-July.

Taika Waititi is the latest filmmaker to be linked with the Star Wars franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Jojo Rabbit director has been approached by Lucasfilm to helm his own movie set in a galaxy far, far away. At the time of this writing, information about the project is being kept close to the vest. However, Waititi making a Star Wars movie is an interesting idea in theory, even if there is reason to be skeptical of the film ever coming to fruition. Of course, as unexpected as this news might seem, Waititi is no stranger to the franchise.

Two years ago, The Current War was being primed to be a key Oscar candidate. A historical drama about the race for electricity dominance in 19th century America starring awards darlings Benedict Cumberbatch and Michael Shannon and directed by Martin Scorsese protégé Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, The Current War had all the right elements to make it a frontrunner in the awards race. It was met with lukewarm reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival, and that might have obstructed it, sure, but critical acclaim isn’t always a driving force come awards season.
