Remember in 2011, when the annual box office dipped slightly from 2010 and entertainment columnists started announcing the death of cinema (even though it was the third best year ever, in terms of revenue)? Well, as it turns out, 2012 proves that the film industry is still alive and kicking ass, thanks to a bunch of superheroes who’ve decided to assemble and tackle our box office problem.

If you look at the top ten movies at the box office at Rotten Tomatoes’s homepage, you’ll notice that they’re all Rotten. The highest-rated is Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax” at 59%. The lowest is, of course, “A Thousand Words” at zero percent. That’s not a good sight if you’re a film lover.

The animation marketplace continues to broaden as Universal scores another huge animated hit with Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax.” Universal previously had another animated hit in 2010 with “Despicable Me” (Steve Carell), which opened with $56M and went on to total $251M at the box office. Looks like “The Lorax” will do just as well.
