Hear how Binh and I did with our predictions for “Insurgent,” “The Gunman,” and “Do You Believe.” Binh was more upbeat on the latter two films, while I was more for the former. Binh tells us why he doesn’t think Shailene Woodley is a star yet, even after I reminded him that she has opened three films around the $50M range. I explained why “Chappie,” which has disappointed at the box office in the U.S., might still turn a profit when it’s all said and done. Ditto with “Penguins of Madagascar.”

Between the novel and the movie, the endings don’t match up. This is, of course, nothing new. The Real Problem With the Divergent Franchise Lionsgate This weekend marks the opening of Insurgent – better known as The Divergent Series: Insurgent, if you’re compelled to say whole mouthfuls of unnecessary words – the second film in the film franchise inspired by Veronica Roth’s bestselling book series of the same name. As successful as that series has been, Roth’s work has been consistently dinged for a number of its most basic elements, especially the vague sense that it’s really just a reworked Hunger Games (future dystopia, one chosen gal, lots of fighting, the similarities are certainly there and it’s silly to ignore them).
