New in Theaters: ‘The Expendables 3,’ ‘The Giver,’ ‘Let’s Be Cops’

This weekend brings an interesting mix of new releases to theaters—we have some tongue-in-cheek mindless action, some young-adult dystopian literature-turned-film, and a risqué buddy cop comedy (sort of). The good news: a wide spectrum of genres that would normally attract lots of moviegoers. The bad news: not one of the new releases is getting good reviews, which may scare any moviegoers away.

‘Let’s Be Cops,’ a new movie about two grown men -- played by Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. -- who pretend to be police officers, did not screen early for critics. On a rainy Tuesday night, I paid $14 for a ticket for ‘Let’s Be Cops’ at my local movie theater, to watch the film amongst around 30 other people who thought this would be a satisfactory night of entertainment. Unless you're a heartless cretin with no patience for all things adorable, Disney's Big Hero 6 teaser piqued your interest for the feature, scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 7. And now that they're finished piquing, the studio has unleashed a full-length trailer that offers a sneak peek at what the movie offers beyond a boy and his portly robot sidekick.

Fox Green LIghts 'Let's Be Cops' For Marlon Wayans Jr. And Jake Johnson

deadline.com – EXCLUSIVE: These Wayans, they just keep coming. 20th Century Fox has set Damon Wayans Jr. and Jake Johnson to star in Let’s Be Cops, a comedy that Luke Greenfield will direct. He wrote the script with writing partner Nick Thomas, based on a pitch he sold to the studio. Simon Kinberg’s Genre Films and Greenfield will produce.
