The countdown to the December 13 debut of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has begun in earnest, with the release of the first of what will surely be many teasers, trailers, and featurettes -- and yes, you get to see some dragon.

Weren’t it for the goblins and the uniquely disturbing orcs, this would be the most kid friendly Tolkien adaptation Peter Jackson’s done yet. The jokes skew broad (from “Wow, dwarves eat a lot!” to “Gee, trolls are dumb.”) and the heroism is largely focused around one kid-sized hobbit.

"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild.

The Hobbit Set Photo with Hugo Weaving – Hugo Weaving is rumored to be reprising his role as Elrond in director Peter Jackson's upcoming prequel The Hobbit. While that news has yet to be verified, Hugo Weaving did recently pop up on the set of The Hobbit to visit the cast and crew.
