Production Begins on GODZILLA; Ken Watanabe Joins Cast

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures announced today that filming has begun in Vancouver on director Gareth Edwards’ (Monster) new Godzilla film. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Juliette Binoche lead a cast that also includes David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. Additionally, the press release notes that Ken Watanabe has now joined the film as well.

Juliette Binoche is in talks for an unspecified role in Warner Bros' Godzilla, Variety reports (via Comingsoon).
If talks went well, she'll join Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bryan Cranston. The latter three won't sign until the script is finalized, so, presumably, Binoche's contract will also have to wait for the finished script as well.
Joe Carnahan No Longer Has 'Death Wish'

Joe Carnahan was brought in to write and direct the Death Wish remake, but, now, he's no longer directing the movie because he and the studios couldn't see eye-to-eye over who to cast for the lead role.
According to Deadline, Paramount and MGM wanted Bruce Willis to play the Paul Kersey character, but Carnahan wanted to go with Bryan Cranston.

With production scheduled to begin next month, Legendary Pictures is assembling the cast together for the monster feature Godzilla. The male lead went to Aaron Johnson, and if talks go well, he'll be joined by Elizabeth Olsen and Bryan Cranston, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

New casting information is dropping with regard to Gareth Edward's reboot of the Godzilla franchise. Variety reports that both Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen are now in talks to join the May 16, 2014 release. The previously rumored Aaron Johnson is also said to still be in contention for a role.
