Annie (2014) News
If a studio were looking for something to remake/update, they could do worse than Annie. It only makes sense that an early 80s film based on a stage musical that takes place in the 30s - which itself was based on a comic strip that began in the 19th century - would be ripe for hauling into the new millennia. Some could argue that Annie's trademark red hair and the Depression Era setting were part of the original's charm, but I figure as long as the story and music still resonate what's the harm in trying?
Well, try they did. And fumble they did.

A new film of the musical "Annie" comes out this week, starring Quvenzhane Wallis and Jamie Foxx. Some online commentators have objected to the decision to change the main character's race, from Caucasian to African-American, but that doesn't negatively affect the film at all. The major problem it has is the producers' decision to tone down the musical's theatricality and cast many non-singers in lead roles.

The head of the cyber-security firm that Sony has tapped to deal with the recent wave of hacking attacks that have rocked the company has called the attacks “unparalleled” and a “well planned crime,” Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton told employees Saturday.
In an email to employees, Lynton shared a message from Kevin Mandia, the head of Mandiant, the cyber-security team that Sony has enlisted to respond to the hackings.
Yesterday I had the chance to sit down and talk to Academy Award® nominee Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) and Academy Award® winnerJamie Foxx about their upcoming film and new take on "Annie."In the film Wallis stars as Annie, a young, happy foster kid who's also tough enough to make her way on the streets of New York in 2014. Originally left by her parents as a baby with the promise that they'd be back for her someday, it's been a hard knock life ever since with her mean foster mom Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz).
