Annabelle News
Right now, audiences can see James Wan's horror spin-off prequel Annabelle, which focuses on the story of the creepy doll glimpsed in The Conjuring. The film offers some decent scares, but it's mostly a formulaic story of demon possession and supernatural events that we've seen before. So MTV decided to freshen things up by taking some footage to Toy Story and mashing it up with the teaser trailer for Annabelle. The result is a very creepy and scary Woody that will never have you look at the cowboy the same way again.

Certain images come pre-loaded with an inherent creepiness — identical twins, clowns, dolls, identical ginger clown dolls — but while their presence guarantees some degree of an unsettling atmosphere they’re not actually all that scary. It’s a fine distinction perhaps, but it’s enough to make one leery at the idea of a horror film built around a doll.

REVIEW: THE CONJURING was one of those pleasant summer surprises, in that it was a deliberately old fashioned, extremely effective little thriller with an unapologetic R-rating and a top-flight cast. It had style and it had substance. One of the most...

A prequel to 2013's fact-based horror hit The Conjuring, Annabelle tells the "origin" of that movie's possessed doll. Culling elements from Rosemary's Baby, The Conjuring, and Insidious, Annabelle isn't a Chucky-style killer doll movie but rather the umpteenth movie in recent memory about demonic possession. The aptly named Annabelle Wallis stars as (no, not Annabelle) Mia, a possible nod to Rosemary's Baby star Mia Farrow. Like Rosemary, Mia spends most of the movie pregnant and dealing with supernatural forces at play in her apartment building.
