'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Sequel Set for 2016

Despite having really poor reviews, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles manages to gross more than $65 million over the weekend, prompting Paramount to move forward with the sequel. The studio has given Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, the duo who wrote the first movie, the greenlight to officially start working on the script for the second one.

‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Sequel Greenlit; Scheduled For Release June 2016 Buzz be dammed, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ruled the box office this weekend. The reboot earned an estimated $65 million and Paramount quickly jumped into action. Sunday morning, the studio greenlit the sequel and already set a release date: June 3, 2016. Screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec will once again write with Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes team once again producing. There’s no word if Jonathan Liebsman will direct. Beverly Hills Cop 4 has been rumored since 2007, and was sidelined for a bit when a potential CBS TV series was in the works. The sequel has a fairly definitive 2016 release date now, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed he expects to have a shooting script within a month.

Two decades after Beverly Hills Cop III's disappointing box office sent the franchise into hibernation, and a year after CBS passed on the chance to air a Cop-inspired spinoff series, Beverly Hills Cop 4 has officially been greenlit, with a release date scheduled for March 25, 2016.

After puttering around in various stages of studio limbo for the better part of two decades, it looked like Beverly Hills Cop IV was finally dead thanks to CBS' plans to turn the franchise into a TV series -- but now that the network has pulled the plug on a Cop show before it's even gotten a chance to air, Paramount is once again moving on a new sequel to the hit 1984 original.
