Coming off 2014’s highest grossing film, “American Sniper,” Oscar-nominated producer Andrew Lazar has teamed with “Secretary” director Steven Shainberg on the sci-fi adventure thriller “Rupture,” it was announced Thursday. Brian Nelson (“30 Days of Night”) wrote the script, based on a story by Nelson and Shainberg. Story follows a single mother, struggling to raise her son alone, who is abducted by a mysterious organization.

American Sniper, director Clint Eastwood's biopic of U.S. Navy SEAL marksman Chris Kyle, became the No. 1 domestic release of 2014 this weekend.
Since its limited release in December, the movie has earned $337.2 million and counting at the North American box office. American Sniper finally dropped out of the Top 10 at the box office this weekend.

“Clint Eastwood has been a conservative icon for years,” Stewart said on “The Daily Show” on Wednesday.

Business shot up 70% over last week, as 3.88 million holiday spectators flooded the theaters, however that figure was over a million lower than last year's Lunar New Year weekend. Granted it's not exactly as fair comparison as LNY itself fell on Friday in 2014 and fell just before the weekend this year. Against stiff competition from British films and foreign animation, local films barely maintained their market share with 50.2%. Leading the market once again was period blockbuster sequel Detective K: Secret of the Lost Island as it rose 63% in its second frame.
