Star Trek: Discovery is making some changes behind the scenes, with showrunning team Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts being removed from the series and replaced with executive producer Alex Kurtzman. The change in leadership in the second season of Star Trek: Discovery comes after a number of issues kept arising with the showrunner duo. First, the second season premiere went way over budget and needed to be paid for with money intended for episodes later in the season.

The Mummy may have been DoA in the U.S., but globally ‘It’s Alive!” and about to cross the $300 Million mark. The film is topping most global markets this weekend and one of the centerpiece scenes is the zero-gravity stunt / airplane crash. Universal has now released a 360° video showcasing just how the stunt was filmed. This includes a discussion with star Tom Cruise who went director Alex Kurtzman and pushed for this type of stunt after reading about the plane crash in the script.
Director Alex Kurtzman is defending the Dark Universe and hyping The Bride of Frankenstein as his film The Mummy opens to mixed audience reactions and poor reviews domestically. In late 2015, Universal Pictures started putting together in earnest what recently became known as its Dark Universe, rebooting classic monster movie titles made famous by the likes of screen legends Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney, Jr, yet setting the characters in a shared universe.

On Sunday, Universal released the first trailer for The Mummy, and now a featurette and two interviews with director Alex Kurtzman give some context to what the heck Russell Crowe is doing there. We know he’s playing Dr. Henry Jekyll, and other movies in this shared Universal Monster Movie Universe might include Johnny Depp as The Invisible Man and Javier Bardem as Frankenstein.

Universal Pictures has plans to release a new movie featuring one of its classic monsters (The Wolf Man, Bride of Frankenstein, and so on) every year, starting in 2017 with director Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy franchise reboot.

Alex Kurtzman's Production Company Inks Three-Year Deal With Universal
Universal has found a director for its forthcoming reboot of The Mummy, with THR reporting that Alex Kurtzman will be the man to take the helm. We recently brought you news that Kurtzman and new writing partner Chris Morgan had been charged by the studio with creating a new crossover universe linking all its classic monster franchises, with The Mummy set to be first out of the gate. Now it appears that Kurtzman’s duties will extend beyond sketching the overall template for said universe, with THR claiming he is in the final stage of negotiations to direct that first film.
