Alejandro González Iñárritu News

Ben Affleck Responds to 'The Revenant' Director's Harsh Criticisms of Superhero Films A couple of years ago, The Revenant and Birdman director Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu shared some particularly severe opinions about the prevalence of superhero films, referring to them as “cultural genocide.” Ouch. But Ben Affleck disagrees, and having been on both sides of the equation, the actor and director is in a position to offer an informed but diplomatic response. Continue reading…

The narrative is familiar and well known by now: Alejandro G. Iñárritu's "The Revenant" was a tough shoot. There's absolutely no debating that. Almost as punishing as the trials that Leonardo DiCaprio's Hugh Glass goes through, the director's film faced no shortage of hurdles during its lengthy on-location shoot, which included crew turnover, battling the elements, and even global warming (the ending of the movie had to be filmed at the southernmost tip of Argentina, when conditions became too warm in Canada).

2016 Directors Guild Awards Winners: ‘The Revenant’ Takes Another Big Prize Lately there have been some shake-ups in the race towards the Academy Awards. Even though The Revenant won Best Drama at the Golden Globes, the Producers Guild gave their award to The Big Short and the Screen Actors Guild gave their top prize to Spotlight. However, the awards love has gone back to the aforementioned Golden Globe winner after the Directors Guild crowned Alejandro G. Iñárritu and The Revenant with the top feature film award. In addition, the winner of the first-time feature film director award, a new prize this year, went to a most deserving filmmaker.

THE REVENANT Wins Box Office Weekend Rentrak.com announced the box-office numbers from this past weekend with the number one film worldwide going to 20th Century Fox's "THE REVENANT", directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and stars actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy. The film took first place worldwide with $49.8 million and $16.0 million in the U.S.

Without a doubt, one of the biggest Oscar contenders this year is Alejandro Iñárritu's western, THE REVENANT. The film has already won a few Golden Globes, so it seems like a shoo-in for at least some major Academy Awards, but it does face some pretty stiff competition this year.

Leonardo DiCaprio Explains Face He Made at Lady Gaga During Golden Globes Leonardo DiCaprio‘s face when Lady Gaga squeezed by him at the Golden Globes was among the most talked-about events from Sunday night’s award show, and now, the actor has finally explained his reaction. “Oh lord — that’s trending, huh?” DiCaprio said when Entertainment Tonight showed him and “The Revenant” director Alejandro G. Iñárritu the gif.

Review: THE REVENANT, An Admirable, Handsome Failure It begins, as you might expect, with a sweeping shot that's equal parts glorious and gratuitous. For The Revenant isn't just some run-of-the-mill flick, this is Oscar-winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu's latest flick, a follow up for his much-lauded Birdman. The photography is by Emmanuel Lubezki, arguably the most creative and tenacious artist capturing images for screen working today, the man that lensed the likes of Gravity and Children of Men, as well as that Keaton flick.

'The Revenant' Was Almost About Leonardo DiCaprio Trying to Get His Gun Back The Revenant has sold itself in trailers as a story of revenge, but to hear director Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu and screenwriter Mark L. Smith tell it, this is a movie about a “spiritual journey.” We’ll have to wait another week to see if that’s what audiences ultimately take from the film, but according to Smith, The Revenant wasn’t originally conceived as a revenge tale — it was something a little different, and a little more interesting.
