The Fault in Our Stars
As much as critics bemoan the continued release of young adult movies, the industry will not slow down for years and years to come, for one simple reason: they make lots of money, provided the cast and crew do a decent job. This weekend illustrated this point nicely, especially since the movie in question was actually very well-received.

With the incredible amount of hype this film is getting, it’s hardly a surprise that Disney’s latest release, despite the skepticism voiced by many-a critic, fulfilled the high expectations set by its predicted gross. This weekend, the box office belongs to Maleficent.

Sound Off: 'A Million Ways to Die in the West' - What Did You Think? Now that you've seen it, what did you think? "From the guy who brought you Ted." Is it anywhere near as good as Ted? Now playing in theaters is the latest big screen comedy from Seth MacFarlane, who writes, directs and stars in A Million Ways to Die in the West, a parody on westerns. Joining him in the wild west is an excellent cast featuring Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi, Neil Patrick Harris, Sarah Silverman and Liam Neeson. So how is it? Best comedy of the summer or waste of time?

Critics Consensus: Maleficent is So-So, But Jolie is Great

rottentomatoes.com – This week at the movies, we've got a legendary villainess (Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning) and some silly cowpokes (A Million Ways to Die in the West, starring Seth MacFarlane and Charlize Theron). What do the critics have to say? 6 years 21 weeks ago via donnieyen

Universal Pictures You might think that Seth MacFarlane would be the perfect guy to make the boldest Western comedy since Blazing Saddles. After 40 years there’s still no topping Mel Brooks there in terms of genre parody, historical satire, sharp political incorrectness as social statement or even the lowbrow humors of slapstick, raunch and gross-out gags. But MacFarlane, who tackles all those areas of comedy in his TV series and movies, doesn’t even come close to being Brooks’ successor with his sophomore directorial effort, A Million Ways to Die in the West.

Review: 'A Million Ways To Die In The West' Starring Seth MacFarlane, Charlize Theron & Liam Neeson Even if you’re not a fan of Seth MacFarlane, you have to acknowledge that the comedic multi-hyphenate has built an empire with his quick-fire, profanity-laced delivery and encyclopedic understanding of pop culture. You’ve got to give him something for the fearlessness, and possibly tonal cluelessness, with which he tackles material. The problem of course is that, armed with that gusto, MacFarlane often belly flops when he’s outside of his comfort zone.
