Zack Snyder to Direct 'Justice League' Movie

Just in case you're still holding out hope that the folks at Warner Bros. might be falling out of love with Zack Snyder after the mixed reviews that greeted Man of Steel, now might be the time to find a new cause to champion. According to the Wall Street Journal, Snyder already has his next DC-derived gig lined up after the upcoming Man of Steel sequel, and it'll be -- you guessed it -- a Justice League movie.

The WSJ gets its scoop from the studio's president of worldwide production, Greg Silverman, who says, "It will be a further expansion of this universe...Superman vs. Batman will lead into Justice League."

The article notes that a script is currently being worked on, although no writer is mentioned -- and Silverman also declined to specify a release date for the project, which the report describes as "unlikely to come out before 2018."

Similarly under wraps is a full cast for Justice League. The article confirms that Henry Cavill "is expected to" return as Superman, along with Ben Affleck as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, but we can only assume Ray Fisher, who's just signed to play Cyborg in the Man of Steel sequel, will also be back -- and no one has any idea yet whether comic book League members like Hawkman and Aquaman will be part of the movie's team.

Finally, the WSJ's report dashes current hopes for a Wonder Woman standalone movie -- at least for now. Warners exec Sue Kroll expressed hope that it could happen at some point, however, saying, "That is our hope. With the right script, that could be viable. The world is ready for her."
