'Yes Man' Helmer Peyton Reed to Direct Marvel's 'Ant-Man'

The search is over. Peyton Reed will replace Edgar Wright as the director of Ant-Man, Marvel has announced this past Saturday. Adam McKay will contribute to the script.

Reed emerged as the frontrunner just before the weekend when it appeared that Marvel's Plan B, C, D, and E weren't all that interested in stepping in to replace Wright or might have other opportunities. Rawson Marshall Thurber, Ruben Fleischer, Nicholas Stoller, and Michael Dowse were those being considered.

Reed made his feature debut with the cheerleader comedy Bring It On and most recently directed Jim Carrey in the 2008 comedy Yes Man. He has been working in TV ever since.

McKay, who was reportedly Marvel's first choice to replace Wright, will give the script a rewrite.

The movie will star Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, with Michael Douglas as his mentor Dr. Hank Pym. The official synopsis is below.

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Ant-Man is currently scheduled for release on July 17, 2015.
