Worldwide Box Office: "The Wolverine" Crosses the $400M Mark

Hugh Jackman in "The Wolverine"

In my previous box office report for the Chinese market late last week, I noted that with the numbers available then for the “The Wolverine,” it should have already passed the $400M mark. Now that those figures are included in BoxOfficeMojo.com, it has an official worldwide gross of $405M.

How does this compare to the other X-Men films? So far, it’s third behind “X-Men: The Last Stand” ($459M) and “X2: X-Men United” ($407M). Hugh Jackman’s latest spin-off is still going strong in China, so it’s bound to pass by “X2: X-Men United” and become the second best worldwide performer of the franchise.

Here are the worldwide grosses for the other X-Men films: “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” $373M, “X-Men: First Class” $354M, and “X-Men” $296M.

For a film with a relatively modest budget of $120M (for a summer tentpole), Fox should be happy with “The Wolverine”’s global box office. The icing on the cake are the good reviews (69% on Rotten Tomatoes).

All of this only points to one thing: we’ll likely see another adventure from the clawed superhero.
