'World War Z' Gets a New Trailer

World War Z

We've seen so many zombie movies at this point that the only way to add anything new to the genre is to approach it from a truly ridiculous angle (see: Warm Bodies). Kudos, then, to Marc Forster's World War Z -- it may not reinvent the zombie movie, but if this latest trailer is anything to go by, it makes up in souped-up thrills what it lacks in originality.

Of course, none of this takes away from the movie's legendarily bumpy production, or the fact that what you see on the screen has almost nothing to do with the bestselling book that inspired this (apparently exceedingly loose) adaptation. But it's easier to forgive those flaws when you're being treated to the sight of zombie hordes hurling themselves en masse off of skyscraper roofs and over seemingly impregnable ramparts.

The upshot: World War Z may not have much of a brain (or narrative integrity), but if it's a shot of adrenaline you're looking for (and/or a couple hours of Brad Pitt-led post-apocalyptic derring-do), this will do nicely.

World War Z is scheduled for a June 21, 2013 release.
