Will Wonder Woman Appear in the 'Man of Steel' Sequel?

Wonder Woman Batman Superman

We know Henry Cavill is coming back as Superman in the Man of Steel sequel, and we know he'll be joined by Ben Affleck as Batman (much to the chagrin of some gun-jumping fans). But could we be getting our first big-screen glimpse of Wonder Woman, too?

That's the latest rumor regarding the as-yet untitled project, which is currently set to bow on July 17, 2015 -- and as luck would have it, Variety managed to get its hands on Greg Silverman, the Warner Bros. president of creative development, to ask him if any of this scuttlebutt is grounded in reality. Annoyingly for Wonder Woman fans, but to the delight of anyone who loves a good evasive maneuver, Silverman spoke at length without really saying anything at all.

"We have been doing a lot of thinking for years about how to best use all those characters and we love them. Wonder Woman is an amazing character. I think it’s a great opportunity both for box office success, but also to have an amazingly powerful female superhero," he responded, presumably while grinning at the visibly frustrated Variety reporter.

Asked point blank whether current plans called for Wonder Woman to be part of the Man of Steel sequel -- or if she might be getting her own movie instead -- Silverman didn't hesitate to prevaricate, saying, "We are taking it all very seriously and are trying to do a plan that’s respectful to those characters and maximizes the stories as best they can. So everything that has been speculated are things that we’ve thought about."

So basically, it's still just a rumor at this point...but one that at least one Warner Bros. executive is interested in fanning a bit with comments designed to make people wonder what the heck is really going on. Given the many months still standing between us and the movie, we can presumably expect many more opportunities for similar shenanigans.
