Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp dropped out of the Whitey Bulger biopic Black Mass last year when the producers asked him to half his asking price (around $20 million), but after exploring their options, the producers have come back to Depp.

According to Deadline, Depp has finalize the deal to star in the movie as Boston-gangster-turned-FBI-informant Whitey Bulger, who uses his connection with the FBI to eliminate his rivals.

Joining Depp as Bulger's childhood friend and FBI agent John Connolly might be Tom Hardy. The Australian actor is in early talks for the role.

Black Mass is to be directed by Out of the Furnace's Scott Cooper, and production is planned for this May.

Barry Levinson was once attached to direct, with Joel Edgerton playing Agent Connolly, but they left when Depp's replacement couldn't be decided upon.
