What's Popping: 'X-Men: Days of Future Past', 'Man From U.N.C.L.E.', '20,000 Leagues', 'Timecop', 'Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance'

Quicksilver

Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch's brother, is going to be in both Fox's X-Men: Days of Future Past and Disney's The Avengers 2, and we assumed the two studios have worked something out beforehand because, if not, lawyers will be sending out nastygrams. Maybe this move is the beginning of an inter-studio superhero mashup?

Tom Cruise knows which franchise butters his bread so he's dropping out Warner Bros' The Man From U.N.C.L.E. to focus on Mission: Impossible 5, which may be shooting later this year. The studio seems committed to move forward with U.N.C.L.E. in light of this latest development and will look for Cruise's replacement instead of shelving it.

Despite receiving a hefty tax break from the Australian government, Disney has postponed production of David Fincher's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea remake until 2014 because, well, the movie has not officially been given the greenlight and there are no actors attached, making the purported shoot next month nearly impossible.

Timecop, Jean-Claude Van Damme's most successful movie, is getting a reboot, but The Muscles from Brussels is not be involved in the redo, which is described as a re-imagining of the concept. The project is out to writers.

While Korean director Chan-wook Park is making his way in Hollywood, all three of his Vengeance Trilogy are getting English-language remakes. The Spike Lee-directed Oldboy is getting released later this year, and Lady Vengeance is in development with Charlize Theron starring and producing. The only one remaining is Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance, which is being remade courtesy of producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian. The script is being written by Broken City's Brian Tucker.
