What's Popping: 'X-Men: Apocalypse,' 'Independence Day 2,' 'Stargate,' 'Cliffhanger,' Thanos

X-Men: Days of Future Past

Simon Kinberg has confirmed that X-Men: Apocalypse, which will be in theaters on May 27, 2016, will focus primarily on the First Class cast, but some of the original cast will be involved too.

Since Will Smith chose not to return to Independence Day 2, Fox will have to move forward without him. Carter Blanchard has been hired to give the Smith-less ID 2 script a rewrite.

Stargate, the sci fi movie that spawned several TV series, is getting rebooted with a planned trilogy. Roland Emmerich will return to direct.

France-based StudioCanal and producer Neal Moritz are planning to remake Sylvester Stallone's 1994 thriller Cliffhanger, and they have set Joe Gazzam to pen the screenplay.

Josh Brolin is reportedly playing Thanos, that purpled-skinned character we saw during the Avengers end credits.
