What's Popping: 'Terminator 5', 'Ben-Hur', 'Star Wars', 'Jack Reacher', 'Hot Tub Time Machine 2'

Terminator

The new Terminator movie is one step closer to happening. After finalizing the deal for the Terminator rights back in December, Annapurna Pictures has brought on Shutter Island's Laeta Kalogridis and Drive Angry's Patrick Lussier to work on the script. While plot details are unknown, the fifth installment will reportedly center on Arnold Schwarzenegger's T-800. The movie is still without a director, however.

Now that MGM has emerged from bankruptcy, the once-storied studio can make bigger bets with is production slate. One of those will be a remake of Ben-Hur. The script is by Keith Clarke, but no director or actors are currently attached.

Earlier this week, Vulture heard that Zack Snyder is going to direct a standalone Star Wars movie that is inspired by Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai and will take place sometime after the events of Return of the Jedi. Sounds good, but it's totally untrue, according to Snyder's rep. "While he is super flattered because he is a huge fan, Zack is not involved in any way with the new Star Wars," Snyder's rep told The Hollywood Reporter.

Jack Reacher has made $155 million globally so far, but if there is to be a sequel, it'll have to hit $250 million, according to sources. Only $95 million left to go, but $85 million of that will have to come from Japan, Korea, and China since the movie hasn't open in those countries yet. Will the movie make it? The chances are slim but not entirely impossible.

The 2010 comedy Hot Tub Time Machine was a modest success at the box office, but it did really well on home video so MGM studio is currently in "exploratory talks" with director Steve Pink and some of the cast members to see if they're willing to re-unite for a sequel. John Cusack is not involved at this time, according to THR.
