What's Popping: 'TDKR' Tragedy, 'Amazing Spider-Man 2', 'Robopocalypse', 'Captain America 2', 'Finding Nemo 2'

At a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado on Friday, a gunman opened fire on the audience resulting in 12 deaths and many injured. The suspect, 24-year-old James Holmes, was arrested behind the theater's parking lot near his car. He was found with a rifle, a shotgun, and two handguns. The suspect was a graduate student in neuroscience program at the University of Colorado Denver before he pulled out in June.
The Amazing Spider-Man made enough to warrant a sequel, but Marc Webb may not return to direct it. It's not that Sony didn't want him back; it just that Webb is contracted to direct an unknown movie for Fox. The thing with sequels is, you don't want too many years to pass between them or else you'll need to spend more in advertising to drum up interest again. In the end, Sony may roll with someone else for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. In another Sony-related news, the studio is planning Men in Black 4.
How will Andrew Stanton recover from the John Carter flop? By moving on to direct the sequel to one of Pixar's most beloved movies, of course. Andrew Stanton is officially on board to direct Finding Nemo 2 which is planned for a 2016 release. However, Stanton's stint with live-action is not over; he will be given another chance when the memory of John Carter isn't so vivid in people's mind anymore.
Steven Spielberg is currently in post with his Abraham Lincoln biopic, but once he's done with Lincoln, he will move on to Robopocalypse. Described as World War Z with robots, the movie will chronicle humanity's final days as sentient machines begin to take over the world. If the schedules align, the one to lead humanity's struggle will be Chris Hemsworth.
Falcon, the first African-American superhero in a mainstream comic may make an appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the sequel to 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anthony Mackie is in talks to play the character and the story in the sequel may involve a sidekick of Captain America's who've disappeared and is presumed dead in an attack during WWII.
