What's Popping: 'Star Wars: Episode VII', 'Independence Day 2', 'Avatar 2', 'Insidious 3', 'Ghost Recon'

Star Wars

Star Wars: Episode VII will begin production in a couple of months, but they're still trying to lock down the cast. The latest names rumored to be orbiting the project are Saoirse Ronan, who may be up for the role of Han and Leia's daughter, David Oyelowo, and Michael B. Jordan. Oh, director JJ Abrams talked about keeping things "real" in Episode VII.

Seems like Fox is approaching the Independence Day sequels with caution. Instead of filming Independence Day 2 and 3 back-to-back (they're one story told over two movies), the studio will make the second one first and then let the market decide if the third one is wanted.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron haven't worked together in a movie since 1994's True Lies, but there's a rumor going around saying Schwarzenegger will be in Cameron's Avatar 2 playing the main villain. Fox is quick to deny this rumor.

There's going to be a third Insidious movie because Insidious: Chapter 2 made over $40 million in its opening weekend. While director James Wan may not be back for the sequel, Leigh Whannell, who wrote the first two chapters, will return to write the screenplay.

The Michael Bay-produced Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon has tapped Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia to write the screenplay. If Bay likes the script, this may be his next movie after Transformers: Age of Extinction.
