What's Popping: Roger Ebert, 'Fast & Furious 7', 'Finding Dory', 'Jack the Giant Slayer', 'G.I. Joe 3'

Roger Ebert

Roger Ebert, the first film critic to win a Pulitzer, passed away on Thursday. He was 70. His death was a surprise to those not close to him because he didn't reveal the severity of his condition when he announced that he was taking a leave of absence from reviewing movies to treat an re-occurrence of cancer. Read what Senh and Binh have to say about his passing.

While Fast and Furious 6 is still a month away from release, Universal is already mulling about having Fast and Furious 7 ready for 2014. Unfortunately, director Justin Lin won't be there for the ride. Lin "felt the rush would not result in his best work," so he told the studio that he won't be returning to direct the 7th movie.

The Finding Nemo sequel is going to be called Finding Dory and will arrive in theaters on November 25, 2015. According to Disney's announcement, the sequel "takes place about a year after the first film, and features returning favorites Marlin, Nemo and the Tank Gang, among others. Set in part along the California coastline, the story also welcomes a host of new characters, including a few who will prove to be a very important part of Dory's life."

Jack the Giant Slayer could lose nearly $150 million for Warner Bros., which would put the film's financial damage somewhere between Universal's Battleship and Disney's John Carter. Someone needs to have a long talk with the person who thought having Nicholas Hoult headlining a nearly $200 million picture is a good idea.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation opened well so it's no surprise to learn that Paramount has greenlit the third movie. The studio does not have a story for G.I. Joe 3 yet. "We haven't spent any time considering what the next movie is," producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura said. "I'd like to do more ninja story." More ninja is always good.
