What's Popping: 'Prometheus', 'Dark Knight Rises', 'Skyfall', 'John Carter', Steve Jobs biopic

Pic From Ridley Scott's Prometheus
Prometheus is Ridley Scott's most anticipated movie in years because it marks his return to the genre that launched his career with Alien more than 30 years ago. While the plot of the movie hasn't been revealed, we can glean parts of it from the production photos and from bits and pieces the director and actors were able to talk about in interviews.

From the sound of things, Prometheus is an Alien movie without being an Alien movie. How the two are related is uncertain at this point, but the link between the two movies may be that giant alien pilot seen in Alien.

"There's definitely a link to Alien. There's creatures in it that you'll recognize," Michael Fassbender told EW. On the other hand, Charlize Theron also said, "I think people should really let go of the idea that it's an Alien film."

Whatever's the case, we'll be looking forward to the movie when the movie comes to theaters June 8, 2012. EW has a couple of new photos from the movie in its latest issue. You can check out the scans online here.

Aaron Sorkin "Strongly Considering" Steve Jobs Biopic
When Sony acquired the movie rights to Walter Issacson's Steve Jobs biography, the company approached The Social Network's screenwriter Aaron Sorkin to turn it into a movie. In an article published by E! on Nov. 22, Sorkin was quoted saying he was "strongly considering" it. The chances are good that he will eventually write it, however, if the movie turned out to be more Newton than the iPad, Sorkin may not want to be associated with it.

Ben Whishaw will play Q in Skyfall
Gadgets were a staple in the James Bond movies but we haven't seen a lot of those since Daniel Craig took over as England's most famous spy. That's no longer the case. It was revealed that Ben Whishaw will be playing MI6's gadget guy, Q, in the 23rd James Bond movie, Skyfall. Casting Whishaw is interesting because he's relatively young so he'll probably act like this hip know-it-all computer dude who will show Bond what's installed in the latest Aston Martin while cracking a joke or two. If you haven't heard of Whishaw, you will soon.

Batgirl In The Dark Knight Rises
Never say never, especially with movies, but The Dark Knight Rises may be Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan's final Batman movie. There will be more movies about the Caped Crusader, sure, but it won't be Bale under that cowl, probably. But what better way to go out than to face off with the man who once broke Batman's back? But wait, there's more! Batgirl may have a cameo in the movie as well, if this picture circulating around the internet is true. Will The Dark Knight Rises be the launching pad for Batgirl's own movie? Speculation, it's what we do best!

Signals From Mars
Andrew Stanton is the director behind the Pixar hits Finding Nemo and WALLE but he's scratching a live action itch with the forthcoming sci-fi adventure John Carter that's coming to theaters March 9, 2012. After releasing a trailer many moons ago, Disney went radio silence on us and hasn't shown us anything else since then. With the release date fast approaching, they're broadcasting again with the release of new images from the movie. This one here shows one of the ferocious creatures Carter will be facing on Mars, and these here give a sense of landscape of the planet, as well as what looks like someone's pet.
