What's Popping: Paul Walker, 'The Stand', 'Episode VII', 'Transformers 4', 'Road House'

Paul Walker

Paul Walker, best known for his role as Brian O'Conner in the Fast & Furious movies, has died in single car accident on Saturday in Santa Clarita, CA. He was 40. He was in the area for a charity event and was riding in the passenger seat while his friend was driving when the accident occurred.

Captain Phillips helmer Paul Greengrass is reportedly the frontrunner to direct The Stand for Warner Bros. He will replace Scott Cooper who dropped out of the project due to creative differences with the studio. Other directors being eyed are Cary Fukunaga, Daniel Espinosa, and Denis Villeneuve.

J.J. Abrams is relieved that Star Wars: Episode VII has been moved back a couple month to December 2015 because the extra time will give him and Lawrence Kasdan time to perfect the script.

Optimus Prime is getting a new look in Transformers: Age of Extinction. He's no longer the blocky bloke we saw in the previous movies, but is more streamlined now. He probably won't look out of place in Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim.

MGM is dusting off another movie in its back catalog for a remake -- this time, it's Patrick Swayze's cult favorite Road House. Rob Cohen will be directing from a script by Michael Stokes.
