What's Popping: 'Ghostbusters 3', 'Prometheus', 'The Avengers', 'Deadpool', 'Top Gun 2'
Dan Aykroyd has been trying to get the gang back together for another Ghostbusters movie, but his pal Bill Murray wants no part of it. It may finally dawn on Aykroyd that Murray will not change his mind. Without Murray's approval, Ghostbusters 3 is pretty much dead in the water.
It looks like Paramount is getting serious about making a sequel to Tom Cruise's 1986 Top Gun and has set Peter Craig to write the script. Christopher McQuarrie was previously attached to write, but when he got the gig directing Cruise in action-thriller One Shot, he had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Tony Scott is still expected to direct the movie.
While making his rounds promoting Safe House, Ryan Reynolds was asked about the status of his long-gestating Deadpool movie. Of course, Reynolds can only gushes about how great the script is, but he cautions that since they're committed to making a R-rated movie, they have to tread carefully. Apparently, this movie won't have any connection to 2009's Wolverine.
A new trailer for The Avengers is out and you need to check it out if you haven't already. This franchise has the potential to surpass the X-Men series as long as they don't decide to kill everyone off like a certain director. This new trailer was viewed 13.7 million times on iTunes in the first 24 hours, breaking the record set by The Dark Knight Rises.
Fox has released another Prometheus promo, but instead of the usual trailers and clips, it's of Guy Pearce as Weyland Corps CEO Peter Weyland giving a speech at the TED conference in the year 2023. Change the world, he will.
