What's Popping: 'Captain America 2', 'Twins 2', 'Anchorman 2', Jack Ryan, Ninja Turtles

Captain America

With The Avengers completed and awaiting its May 4th release, work is set to begin on the Captain America sequel. According to Vulture, a list of ten potential directors for Captain America 2 has been narrowed down to three. The ones remaining on the list are George Nolfi, F. Gary Gray, and the directing pair of Anthony and Joseph Russo. This is not to say one of these director(s) is a lock for the job. Someone Paramount/Marvel like better may suddenly become available and the job may be given to that person instead.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito, and Eddie Murphy are coming together for Triplets, the sequel to the 1988 comedy Twins. As the title suggests, Murphy will play the third brother in the sequel. Universal is currently looking for writers to develop is concept into a viable screenplay. This may be one of those movies are best speculated about but not actually made.

Ron Burgundy will be back on the air. Will Ferrell announced on Conan that Anchorman 2 is officially in the works. It is expected that most of the cast member will return for the sequel as well. You can watch Ferrell in his Ron Burgundy persona making the announcement in this 5-minute clip.

When director Jack Bender exited Paramount's Jack Ryan reboot, we thought the project might be in trouble, but it looks like the studio may have found Bender's replacement in time for its scheduled fall shoot. If everything went well, Kenneth Branagh will be directing Chris Pine as the new Jack Ryan after he is done with Star Trek 2.

First we learned that the Turtles are aliens in the live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, now there's another bit that is a cause for concern. Apparently, the movie has a working title of Ninja Turtles. Since the Turtles will now be aliens, dropping the Mutant from the title is understandable, but dropping Teenage as well? Michael Bay wrote in his messageboard to clarify that the title is decided on from a purely marketing standpoint. The Turtles will still act like teenagers. Looking forward to what other bombshells will drop from this movie.
