What's Popping: Buttercast, 'Transformers 4', 'Mission: Impossible 5', 'MacGyver', Biggest Flop of 2012

Skyfall

This week, we introduced our very first Buttercast in which Jeff and Sara talked about the new Bond film, Skyfall. We are very excited to bring you this new feature and hope to produce more of them. Give it a watch and let us know what you think.

According to Michael Bay, Transformers 4 will take place your years after the events in the previous movie, Dark of the Moon. Mark Wahlberg is on board to play the father of a high school senior who has a race car driving boyfriend from Texas. That boyfriend's affinity for cars is probably what will involve the three in the battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons. As for who will play the daughter and the boyfriend, Bay has his eyes on a few candidates. Oh yeah, Bay also said the release date for Transformers 4 has changed from June 27, 2014 to July 4, 2014.

Christopher McQuarrie directed Tom Cruise in the action-thriller Jack Reacher, but the pair may re-team for Mission: Impossible 5. McQuarrie is reportedly finalizing a deal with Paramount to succeed Brad Bird as the next director of the franchise. Paramount is looking to have the fifth Mission: Impossible out sometime in 2014.

James Wan is in talks with New Line to direct the big screen adaptation of the '80s TV series MacGyver. While plot details were not revealed, the movie will probably be an origin story introducing the character to an audience who have not seen the TV series when it was still on the air. Why Wan? Apparently, he can do wonders with the (low) budget he's given.

The biggest box office bust in 2012 so far isn't Battleship or John Carter, even though they received lots of press for their failures. No, that honor belongs to The Oogieloves In The Big Balloon Adventure, according to a list produced by Forbes. The movie managed to make only $1 million at the box office on a budget of $20 million, which is 5% of the budget. Others on the list include A Thousand Words, Dredd, Big Miracle, and Wanderlust.
