What's Popping: 'Blade Runner 2', 'Bond 24', 'Pirates of the Caribbean 5', Grumpy Cat, 'Bad Santa 2'

Blade Runner

That new Blade Runner movie to be directed by Ridley Scott? It may actually be happening. Green Lantern's Michael Green is in talks to write the script and, according to sources, the story will take place several years after the events in the first movie.

After saying he won't return to direct the next installment of the James Bond movies, Mendes, who said the idea made him "physically ill," is back in the mix for not only Bond 24, but Bond 25 as well. It appears some ailments can be healed with a suit case filled with cash.

Disney, with the approvals of Johnny Depp and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, has selected Kon-Tiki's Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg to direct Pirates of the Caribbean 5. Since Pirates 5, which is scheduled for summer 2015, is said to be a standalone movie, characters from the previous adventures may not return for this one.

The producers who've brought us comedy gems such as Zookeeper, Jack and Jill, and Here Comes The Boom are at it again. Todd Garner and Sean Robins have optioned the movie rights to Grumpy Cat, an internet meme featuring a perpetually grumpy cat saying, well, grumpy things. I smell Oscars.

Entourage's Dough Ellin has come on board to write and potentially direct the sequel to 2003's R-rated comedy Bad Santa. If things align, the movie may shoot in the fall, with Billy Bob Thornton reprising his role.
