What's Popping: Batman, 'Pirates 5', 'Expendables 3', 'Snowpiercer', 'Star Trek 3'

Christian Bale

Christian Bale is the most successful Batman ever, so it makes sense to bring him back even if it'll cost a king's ransom, right? That may have to be the case, according to the Beyond Batman ebook. The author claims Bale will have no choice but to come back and play Batman at least one more time because an obscene amount of money will be thrown at him. How obscene? $50 million.

The Lone Ranger may go down in the history books as the biggest box office flops of 2013 and may cause Disney to write down between $16--$190 million. As a result, Disney is reportedly scaling back on Pirates of the Caribbean 5, another Jerry Bruckheimer production, by cutting its budget from $250 million to $200 million. Not only that, the studio is also, reportedly, stripping Bruckheimer's authority to have the final say in the movie.

While Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, and Antonio Banderas are boarding The Expendables 3, Bruce Willis may be on his way out. Apparently, he is offered $3 million for four days of work, but he wants $4 million. Let's see if Lionsgate is willing to give into his demands.

When Bong Joon-ho's Snowpiercer hits theaters here, it will be 20 minutes shorter than what's shown in non-Western countries. Why? Without the trims, Harvey Weinstein fears those in Iowa and Oklahoma won't be able to understand the movie.

Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci are returning to write the screenplay for Star Trek 3, but who should direct it? Unless J.J. Abrams drops out of Star Wars: Episode VII, he's certainly out. Well, how about G.I. Joe: Retaliation's Jon M. Chu and Planet of the Apes' Rupert Wyatt? They are the latest names coming out of the rumor mill.
