What Flop? 'Jack Reacher' Crosses $200M Worldwide Mark

For all that talk about disappointing grosses foiling plans for a franchise, it looks like Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher is still doing pretty well at the box office -- in fact, as Deadline reports, it just became Cruise's 19th film to break the $200 million mark.
Someone at Paramount is paying attention to all those receipts, too; according to Deadline's sources, the studio is in the preliminary stages of figuring out where to take the Reacher rights from here. They've pretty much got their pick in terms of choices -- the character, created by author Lee Child, has been the star of 17 novels, with the 18th, Never Go Back, due this August.
Impressive as Cruise's latest feat might be, he's still only fifth on the list of all-time highest-grossing actors; his $3.1 billion lifetime total puts him behind Samuel L. Jackson, Harrison Ford, Eddie Murphy, and Tom Hanks. He'll be looking to add to that haul with his next release, the dystopian sci-fi thriller Oblivion, due April 19.
