Weekend Box Office Report: 'Spiderman' Pulls in Amazing Revenues

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The sole new release this weekend kicked summer off in a big way, topping the charts with earnings that fulfilled fully the generous projected range it was given. Despite the misgivings of old and new fans alike, The Amazing Spiderman 2 proved that it has enough merit to rival the old trilogy, at least in terms of earnings.

The latest from Spidey pulled in an impressive $92 million, placing it squarely in the high range of its predicted revenues. This is still not as high as the first original Spider-man film, but it actually leads the second film by around $10 million. You know what that means—we are most definitely getting another film, whether critics and die-hard fans of the original movies like it or not.

Next came last week’s reigning release, The Other Woman, which pulled in around half its opening-weekend gross at $14.2 million this weekend, and $47.3 million overall. It was followed this weekend by Heaven is For Real, which made $8.7 million over the weekend, and $65.6 million total.

Unfortunately, Marvel’s other release, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, has suffered a bit of a fall from grace, earning only $7.7 million this weekend, but enjoying a still-massive total of $237.1 million. Lastly, we have the tenacious Rio 2, which made another $7.6 million for a sum of $106.4 million.
