Weekend Box Office Report: 'Ride Along' Remains King of the Hill

Ride Along

Even on a Superbowl weekend, where thousands of people opt to stay home and watch the fabled game, the reigning champ of the last few weekends, Ride Along, managed a third weekend perched comfortably atop the charts, pushing aside the meager new releases.

Ride Along made itself a tidy sum of $12.3 million over the weekend, with a cumulative sum of $92.9 million so far. Either this movie has some previously unhinted-at hidden appeal, or the last three weeks of releases have been even more abysmal than indicated by their mediocre ratings.

It was followed by the indomitable Frozen, which has again made it up to the second-highest earnings with revenues of $9.3 million this weekend, and an ever-increasing total of $360 million.

At third-highest earnings we have the first of our new releases, That Awkward Moment, which closely chased Frozen with a somewhat disappointing opening-weekend earnings of $9 million.

Our last honorable mentions for this weekend are The Nut Job and Lone Survivor, which respectively earned $7.6 million and $7.1 million this weekend, with respective totals of $50.2 million and $104.2 million. The last new release, Labor Day, sits a couple spots lower on the charts, with revenues of only $5.3 million.
