Weekend Box Office Report: 'Ride Along' Continues to Cruise in First

Ride Along

With two weeks of largely unimpressive, unsuccessful new releases, it’s unsurprising that last week’s Ride Along managed to top the charts once again, burying this weekend’s new release under several layers of holdover films.

Ride Along managed to make another $21.1 million over the weekend, for a respectable two-week total of $75.4 million. It was once again followed (this time somewhat distantly) by Lone Survivor, which is maintaining decent weekend revenues at $12.6 million, and a total of $93.6 million.

Continuing the trend of imitating last weekend’s lineup is The Nut Job, which again followed Lone Survivor, this time with revenues of $12.3 million, and a sum of $40.2 million so far. The only real change in the charts from last week came in the form of a minor comeback for Frozen, which topped Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit with earnings of $9 million to add to its astronomical total of $347.8 million. Jack Ryan, meanwhile, made a modest $8.8 million, and sits at a total of $30.1 million.

Finally, our new release, I, Frankenstein, didn’t come even close to its generous projected gross with only $8.2 million; even without any serious competition, a film done this badly just can’t succeed.
