Weekend Box Office Report: 'Oz' Truly Great and Powerful in Box Office

As one might expect, Oz managed to ascend the box office charts in a big way, while its much less famous counterpart in last week’s releases didn’t quite pull in as much as was predicted.
Oz: The Great and Powerful made the most over the weekend by far, earning just over the top of its predicted range of revenues at $80.2 million.
Last week’s other release, Dead Man Down, fell behind some holdouts of previous weeks. The second-highest earnings went to Jack the Giant Slayer, which made respectable second-weekend revenues of $10 million for a sum of $43.8 million. Following this film was the long-enduring release Identity Thief, which added $6.3 million for a total of $116.5 million.
The more unfortunate of this last week’s new releases, Dead Man Down, made only $5.3 million over the weekend—below even its fairly low projections for its opening weekend. It’s fair to say that Oz reigned supreme this weekend.
