Oblivion

The weekend was very kind to last week’s one and only new release, Oblivion. Otherwise, the charts have remained more or less static since last weekend.

Oblivion did quite well in the box office, making over $38.1 million; while this is at the bottom end of its predicted range for its opening weekend gross, it’s still a respectable sum, and the film can probably expect similarly impressive numbers in later weeks.

The rest of the chart looks more or less the same as it did last week—42 occupies the slot below Oblivion, having earned another $18 million for a total of over $54 million. The Croods, the ever-persistent holdout, pulled in the third-highest revenues at $9.5 million, for a whopping sum of $154.9 million.

The only real change in the charts was Scary Movie 5 falling below The Croods, making only $6.2 million, for a somewhat underwhelming total of $22.9 million. Finally, G.I. Joe: Retaliation managed to cling to the higher levels of the charts as well, earning another $5.7 million for a total of $111.2 million (numbers from Box Office Mojo).
