Weekend Box Office Report: 'Non-Stop' Tops Chart...Somehow

Given the relatively poor reception this latest batch of new releases received, most people would’ve expected another good weekend for The Lego Movie, and modest earnings for our new releases. However, both new releases were able to make it to the top two spots on the charts, probably because any real film competition they might have had is several weeks old.
Non-Stop was the big earner this weekend, making a little over its projected earnings at $30 million. It was followed by its companion release, Son of God, which also earned above its predicted gross (and by roughly the same amount) at $26.5 million.
The Lego Movie came after our new releases, dropping down to $21 million this weekend for a sizeable total of $209.3 million. We then have a large gap in revenues separating The Lego Movie the tenacious holdover film, The Monuments Men, which made only $5 million this weekend, for a total of $69.6 million. Finally, we have last weekend’s 3 Days to Kill, which made $4.9 million this weekend, and $20.7 overall.
