Weekend Box Office Report: New Releases 'Jurassic Park 3D' and 'Evil Dead' Rule Box Office

Not only did this last week introduce abnormally well-received new releases, but these releases continued the streak with admirable box office numbers, as well.
Top earnings over the weekend went to last week’s classic horror film reboot: Evil Dead, which made a tidy sum of $26 million. Next in line for revenues was G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which made another $21.1 million, for a total of $86.6 million so far.
Amidst these darker-toned films, the prevailing family film holdout, The Croods, managed to pull in respectable earnings, adding $21.1 million to its impressive sum of $125.8 million (the astute observer might have noticed that The Croods, a three-week holdout, made as much as GI Joe: Retaliation did on its second week; your move, Joes).
Last week’s other new release (well, sort of), Jurassic Park 3D, made the fourth-highest earnings, at $18.2 million (very admirable, given the film originally came out 20 years ago). Finally, bringing up the rear of this weekend’s top earners is Olympus Has Fallen, which earned another $10 million for a total of $71.1 million (numbers are, as usual, from Box Office Mojo).
