Weekend Box Office Report: 'Hansel and Gretel' Comes Out Ahead of 'Parker,' 'Movie 43'

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters

As badly as this last week’s new releases were received, they made a fairly good showing of themselves this weekend.

Coming in at the top of the charts is Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters; Box Office Mojo puts its weekend profits at $9 million. While this is below HSX’s predicted range of $13-$18.4 million, it’s certainly the best it could hope for—the film has graduated to an 18% on the Tomatometer from Friday’s 8%, but this is still about as bad as critical reception gets.

Holdouts occupied the next few slots; Mama earned over $12.8 million for a total of $48.6 million, while Silver Linings Playbook, which is going on three months in theaters, made another $10 million for a total of $69.4 million, pushing Zero Dark Thirty to fourth-highest earnings at $9.8 million, for a total of $69.9 million.

The other new releases’ opening weekend profits only go down from here. Parker earned $7 million, while Movie 43—which, incidentally, finally received a withering Tomatometer
