Weekend Box Office Report: 'Captain America' Gives in to 'The Other Woman'

The Other Woman

After several weeks full of new releases doing their best to dethrone Marvel’s latest film, Captain America finally relinquished its spot atop the charts to one of the new releases. It was kind of a lukewarm weekend for everyone involved, however.

Despite a plot heavily geared toward a female audience, The Other Woman pulled in the highest earnings this weekend, making well above its projected range at $24.7 million.

Next came the former champion, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which made itself a modest $16 million for a not-so-modest total of $224.8 million so far. It may not be top dog any more, but this film will probably enjoy a couple more weeks in the top five earners before it leaves theaters.

It was followed this time around by Heaven is For Real, which made $13.8 million this weekend for a total of $51.9 million. Rio 2, which was knocked down a spot from last weekend, earned $13.6 million for a total of $96.1 million so far.

Finally, another of the new releases made it into the upper levels of the charts: Brick Mansions earned itself a modest $9.6 million, while The Quiet Ones sat a couple spots lower with revenues of only $4 million.
