Weekend Box Office Report: ‘Turtles’ Take the Box Office Once More

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Given that this week’s set of new releases received overwhelmingly bad reviews (and don’t have quite enough hype to fill the holes left by shoddy filmmaking), the way the charts played out isn’t super surprising—this weekend, the holdover films remained at the top, and the new releases were relegated to lower spots. It’s a straightforward, uncomplicated weekend, so let’s get to it.

Despite its own issues with ratings, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles once again pulled in the most revenues at $28.4 million, and a two-week total of $117.6 million. It was again followed by Guardians of the Galaxy (the only film in the top 5 earners with a decent rating), which earned $24.7 million for a total of $222.8 million.

Next came the first of our new releases, Let’s Be Cops (interestingly, the one that received the worst reviews overall), with weekend earnings of $17.7 million, and a five-day total of $26.1 million, having been released on Wednesday.

After that came The Expendables 3, which probably owes what little it earned ($16.2 million) to its long list of famous names in the cast. Finally, the movie adaptation of The Giver brought up the rear with earnings of $12.7 million.
